Minimalist Curry at The New Karahi Palace

20140913_223102It was late. Hector had The Munchies. A Text was sent to Marg on the return journey from a soon to be Foreign Land, either collect me at Glasgow Central or at The New Karahi Palace (51-53 Nelson Street, Glasgow, G5 8DZ) an hour later. No prizes for guessing….

There was a line of cars parked along Nelson St, a Party was under-way in the Upstairs Restaurant. Lots of Weans, people having Fun, Curry too. Hector’s Favourite Curry Houses are doing well.

On entering I asked Rasheed if he would cook for me. It was 22.30, later than I tend to be here. Ayaz appeared – Only Small Portion. They had done well this evening.

The new Young Chap was busy running up an down the stairs, jugs of water. He brought the Token Salad and asked if I wanted Sauce. Raita didn’t work. White Sauce – success.

20140913_225112Ayax brought the Karahi Gosht and immediately apologised. He would make it up next time. Indeed, the Portion size looked – Fine – however there was more Bone than Lamb. Not since the Noddy and Alan Visit has this been so obvious. Still, after the disappointment of earlier in the day at Newcastle this was still a Stand-out in terms of Flavour.

20140913_225116The Single Chapatti was used to Dip the Oily Masala from the Base of the Karahi. Here lies the most Intense Flavours. The Bones were sucked clean, a Big Pile grew. Fresh Green Chillies packed the Punch. Fun.

Hector, The Wasted Years

Shan, The Delivery Man, came over for a chat. He told me of Rasheed’s origins in Islamabad and how he has been cooking for some Twenty Five Years. Since arriving in Glasgow he has been loyal to The Karahi Palace. How many times did I walk on by?

Shan confirmed only One Chapatti was required and informed Rasheed.

Marg Arrived

Marg was introduced to Ayaz and Rasheed, she has only eaten here Once and that was quite a while back. This will have to be rectified.

The Bill

I went up to pay, Ayaz twisted his face. He knew he had to charge me something. Tonight I had not been given – The Full Bhuna. £8.70 was the call. Fair enough. Next time – The Half Kilo.

The Aftermath

This has been quite a – Curry Weekend. Stay tuned, there’s more, The Morra’….
