The week long tour that has taken Marg and Hector to Northumberland then on to Poland, finally ends today. With an evening flight back to Newcastle there was time to spend a couple more hours in Kraków en route back from Katowice. Hector knew exactly where we would dine.
Indus Tandoor (ul. Krowoderska 23, 31-000, Kraków, Polska) in the heart of Stare Miasto (Old Town) has been visited twice and has impressed both Hector and The Man from Bradford who mysteriously has not featured on this trip, very strange. On the last visit, Marg ordered the Fish Kadhai whilst I had stuck to the tried and tested Lamb Kadhai, one sample of the Fish and I knew it was most likely to be the Best Dish on their Menu.
Our Speciality – is the name given to the Soup. Two Portions of this were also mandatory, again only a Soupçon (!) was experienced last visit.
The Waitress took the order – One Medium and One Spicy Soup. She anticipated that the Fish Kadhai should also be – Spicy. The Vegetable Pulao would accompany, Marg opted for Chicken Samosas instead of a Main Course.
Knowing the facilities to be actually outside Indus Tandoor, I headed off. They were out of order, I was almost led by the hand into the Restaurant next door. Our second experience of Polish Plumbing Problems in the space of Twenty Four Hours.
I described the – Our Speciality – Soup as Cream Of Garlic Soup with Chicken and Vegetables. Marg said she wasn’t getting Garlic. We did agree on the remainder of the content. The Chicken was Sufficiently Abundant, Ginger Strips added Texture, Paneer, Peas and Green Beans completed the Melange. Paneer! This is Wonderful Soup!
Chicken Samosa
A Pair of Pyramids arrived with the Three Dips. Marg had ordered well. Flavoursome, Crusty Pastry with good bits of Chicken, Lentils and Mixed Vegetables … Filling.
Kadhai Fish with Vegetable Pulao
Placed on the Candle Heated Stand, the Kadhai looked most inviting. The Masala was Dark in the ambient light, the Thickness most apparent. The Fish was buried in the Mass which was certainly abundant. The Dark Red Chillies revealed themselves as the Curry was spooned on to the Rice. Sometimes I eat them, sometimes not. With a ‘plane journey imminent, best not. Still, their Spice and Smoky Flavour would have permeated the Dish. The Spice and Seasoning were exactly how this commentator seeks them, the Quality of the Curry was oozing… Marg could tell that I was in my element, this was a very special moment. The Fish was plentiful, I asked the Waiter to identify the Fish – Salmon. One assumes the Fish had been cooked before as Salmon Tikka given the Slight Crisping on the Edges, this added to the Texture.
Texture, this Curry had another Dimension thanks to the Rice. Interesting Vegetables are always appreciated. The Copious Rice contained Cauliflower, Broccoli, Peas and Green Beans, from somewhere Two Slivers of Capsicum had appeared. Even these could not spoil the moment. This Curry was Truly Magnificent. I only know of One Other Curry Venue which serves a better Fish Curry, bring on November..
The Bill
Zl97.00, £18.24. A Main Course and Three Starters, Good Value.
The Aftermath
The Calling Card was left with the cash, no time to hang around, we have a ‘plane to catch.
Now what Bus goes to the Airport? FYI – 292.
