After sampling the truly wonderful New World IPA (Northern Monk Brew Co.) at a modest 6.2% it was time to leave The Sparrow. I doubt if there will be a better Bier this weekend. Steve had an early night, leaving Neil and Hector to walk along to the Sheesh Mahal (6 St. Thomas’ Road, BD1 2RW, Bradford). This would be Neil’s First Bradford Curry, what a place to start. Hector congratulates Bradford for retaining the Curry Capital Award in 2014. Who wins Awards?
Omar is back! It was good to see him after his enforced absence, looking fitter than ever. How has he managed this? The Poppadoms and Dips were brought, Chicken Pakora with Onion Pakora followed soon. Omar was looking after us. Neil had already declared it late in the day to be eating, I post this as early in the day. He followed my lead – Lamb Karahi on-the-bone. The inclusive Chapattis for Hector, Neil stuck to Boiled Rice, one day.
Taj, Mein Host, was sitting quietly in the corner, not for long, he came over and the necessary introductions were made.
Two Karahi with a clearly Rich and Bradford-minimal Masala were brought within a reasonable time.
Lamb Chops featured prominently. Neil was more enthusiastic than Hector who was not getting the Bradford-blast. I had left it to Omar, I should have reminded him – Extra Methi, no Capsicum. Some multi-coloured Capsicum had sneaked into the Karahi. Perhaps this had distorted the overall flavour? Seasoning! The Karahi needed more Seasoning, that’s what was missing. There were no notes tonight, the Unreliable Samsung had long died and the backup power pack was back in the Travelodge. Even Hector couldn’t believe that his phone could die that quickly.
The Bill
£18.00. Ah, Bradford Prices, Bradford Curry.
The Aftermath
Omar came and sat with us. He and Taj are coming up to Glasgow in a couple of weeks. Hopefully Omar will get in touch, it is time I took them for Glasgow Curry – where?
Yes, I enjoyed my curry. Very tasty, lovely flavour. Maybe it was the capsicum! ;0)
