It was a long day, there would be an extra hour tonight. Four of The Company were staying in Manchester, but due to a certain football match, prices for a room in Manchester were prohibitive tonight, cue The Bradford Three. The train back from Huddersfield took significantly less time than the outward journey on the same line. Why is this?
Last night, Neil was in tow. Tonight Steve was the willing Co-diner, his first visit too to The International (40-42 Morley St., Bradford, BD7 1BA) ). The welcome from Ali was enthusiastic to say the least. He had never met Steve but clearly felt comfortable giving Steve a hug (?) as he took his seat. Khalid was a bit more subdued, he would take the order. This was only Hector’s third visit this year.
Poppadoms and Dips were brought as soon as we took our seats, this evening I passed on these, I had Curry in mind, Bradford Curry.
Lamb Karahi was the order, on-the-bone for Hector, Boneless for Steve. The Chapattis were inclsive. What came showed just how markedly different basically the Same Curry can be. The Hector Curry Portion looked massive compared to Steve’s plated Dish.
The Masala appeared Plentiful compared to the Fish Methi served at Lunchtime at the Sheesh Mahal. The Lamb was wonderfully Tender, the Quantity Abundant, but this did not Taste of Bradford Curry. Somehow this Curry took Hector to Manchester. There was a clear Ghee/Butter Glaze, Hector was transported to the Lahori Deera. The Curry was full of Flavour, just not he expected one. I mentioned Lahori Dera to Ali and the message spread around the Kitchen. This was a complement.
Steve’s verdict – Lamb Karahi, Spicy. The Meat was Fantastic, the Flavour was instant. Very friendly staff.
The Bill
£17.50. Everyone can afford to eat out in Bradford.
The Aftermath
Mein Host, Mr Bashir, was not in his spot this evening, instead a Young Pretender was in situ. I introduced myself, a Nephew? Showing him earlier Curry-Heute posts, he did not recognise Ali without his beard. There had to be a photo.
It was 02.30, time to put the clocks back. The perfect night for an early morning Curry.
