Those keeping the score will know that I do eat at The New Karahi Palace more than anywhere else currently. Their Karahi I could eat every day. Yadgar remains Hector’s #1 Recommended Glasgow Curry House, one couldn’t eat here everyday, the Curry is too Rich, best to limit the visits and keep them Special.
Kenny has joined the Curry Squad in recent months and has only been to Yadgar once before. Time to introduce him to the alternative to the sublime Karahi Gosht, the Lamb Chops Achari. Dr. Stan has had this only once before, it would also be a first Achari at Yadgar for Mags. For the record, it was Curryspondent Ahmed who put Hector on to this wonderful dish.
Arriving bang on the scheduled 17.00, two families of mothers with weans were finishing their Teatime Yadgar Treat. The New Waiter was seated having a break before the Teatime Rush. I must get his name. Naveed was busy as ever behind the Takeaway Counter. Mr Anwar Sr. came over to chat, always a pleasure. There is a plan to close for a couple of days to perform he much needed re-decoration. At least all the external works are now a thing of the past. The outside, it’s dark out there, at 17.00. Why?
The Chap started to bring The Bits: The Dips, the Chutney, The Spiced Onion. The Salad impressed, Fresh Green Chillies and the Sliced Pickled Version, cancel the Curry, Hector wants Falafel!
The Pile of Poppadoms was in situ as the Three Co-diners arrived. We got stuck right in.
As Regular Readers know, the listed array so far is always Complimentary. When a Plate of Fish Pakora arrived there was no surprise, just appreciation, Superb and Fresh.
You can go now, Kenny. You’ve had your Spiced Onions.
Dr. Stan ate on, the last Poppadom went to him, the Karahis were coming, the efficiency of pre-booking the order. A new Family at the window table looked on with envy (my observation), what on earth were we having?
Two Kilos of Lamb Chops Achari. Given the bone content nowhere near excess for Four to share, but still a Challenge. Kenny and Mags claimed that their Karahi had the Smaller Chops with more Masala compared to the Karahi between Dr. Stan and Hector which had larger Chops and less Masala. Had this been presented in such a manner deliberately? Chef, Mr. Arshad, had been out earlier and acknowledge our presence, he saw where Hector was sitting. Green Peppers – observed Mags. No way. The small Green Bits were from the Lime Pickle.
Shkoor and Son of Shkoor entered, yes this is what people look like stuffing their faces. Shkoor congratulated us for eating the Chops with our fingers – Good to see you eating properly. He could tell by the Companionable Silence that we were enjoying the Fayre.
The Quality Chapattis were relegated to scooping up the Richest of Masala, or holding on to the Steaming Hot bones at first. This was a day when I should be congratulating my Dumbarton Dentist for enabling the Gnashers to work with such reliability, still care was necessary, bones do break. Mags and Kenny stopped first, Dr. Stan and Hector invaded their Karahi, were they different? Perhaps. Mags took a Chop from ours. The Joy of Eating, we invited Shkoor to listen to Dr. Stan’s – Mmmmm-ometer.
Mags was in raptures, she has been particularly enjoying her Curry of late. Mags has experienced the Yadgar Goshat Karahi over the years, the Lamb Chops Achari knocked her out. A couple of weeks back, Waris’ home-cooked White Karahi was declared her Favourite Curry of all time, today matched this. And not a Potato in sight.
That was very good, brilliant! said Dr. Stan. What’s he on? Kenny trusts that wherever I take him there is going to be good scoff.
If it Firhill for Thrills, then it’s Govanhill for Grub. A Yes to Yadgar!
There was a pile of bones…
The Bill
£60.00. Well that’s what we offered and it was accepted with grace.
The Aftermath
Shkoor was behind the Counter, caught putting Curry in the Microwave. If I write about this, it’ll shut you down…
Behold a large tray of Curry awaiting reheating. Shkoor was proudly displaying the tray of Today’s Yadgar Special – Karela Gosht – some of which was quickly being reheated for a customer, in a hurry? A Portion was offered but had to be declined.
Where we are headed we cannot take in food. A pity. Karela Gosht, it has been a while.
Achari Weekend continues…
