It was during the last visit to the New Karahi Palace (51-53 Nelson Street, Tradeston, Glasgow, G5 8DZ), yes three days ago, that this evening’s visit was conceived. Mr. Snax would be enticed through to Glasgow to dine somewhere other than Yadgar. To prize Mr. Snax away from his Hallowed Place has taken some convincing, however we know we seek the same Curry:- Lamb on-the-bone, well-seasoned, with Methi, a Minimal but Rich Masala. So it goes.
Alas the inclement weather put the risk of chaos on the M8 to the fore, the Guest Diner has postponed. Signed up too, Dr. Stan was well up for the opperchancity of a Half Kilo of Lamb Karahi, Marg would step up and be – The Third.
Arriving a bit before the scheduled 19.00, Ayaz, Mein Host, was happy to let us sit upstairs. He even put on two heaters. A fan heater at Marg’s feet kept us cosy in the Restaurant that is like no other. Who conceived this Décor?
It was agreed there would Starters, a Portion of Lamb Chops and one of Seekh Kebab also. Marg would have a Portion of Lamb Karahi, no way could she face the Half Kilo. Honour was maintained, the order was placed on Sunday, we were there to consume it
A Lady brought the Modest Salad and Two Dips, Raita and the Red Chilli Sauce. She is Spanish and speaks next to no English. Just another Crazy Dimension to add to the New Karahi Palace Experience. The Modest Salad made more sense with Starters imminent, decoration. A second Modest Salad came later. Much Modesty.
Dr. Stan was presented with a Chicken Seekh Kebab, Marg managed to purloin part of this before the camera could focus. A Piece ended up on Hector’s plate. A Lamb Chop ended up on Marg’s. She was content. Bizarre, this is what happens when The Lady is present.
Minding my own business, the Three Lamb Chops I had to enjoy were how I like them… Dark and Crispy on the Exterior, not too Moist inside. Charcoal and Spice, this was a Lamb Chop, or three.
Now to digest before the Main Event. This was not difficult, an Apple was the only Solid to pass Hector’s lips prior to setting foot here this evening. There was hunger.
Ayaz brought Two Large Karahi, each with a large serving spoon, delight. Marg received the Traditional Black Karahi. The Lady brought the Chapattis, here we go. Dr. Stan and Marg decanted to the provided plates, Hector stuck to the indulgent tradition, this is all for me, and so I shall eat from the Karahi.
One could see Dr. Stan’s anticipation. It matched my own. Meanwhile Marg observed the bone content, she is becoming used to it.
There was not much chatter whilst we ate. The occasional – Mmmm – from the Doctor, Marg admitting that this was something special.
A Single Chapatti each did the job of mopping up the Thickest of Masala rich in Onion and Tomato. The Ginger Strips and Fresh Coriander Topping added the Diversity. Marg now expects Ginger Strips on her Curry. August 25th, the last time Hector cooked Curry. Marg knows what is imminent.
Marg remarked that she could taste the Herbs because the Seasoning was not Excessive. The Methi. Marg has been exposed to a lot of Curry, she is starting to talk the language, else she has been reading a well known Curry Blog more than she realises. The Lamb Karahi was not too Spicy, enough. It’s all in the Flavours. Dr. Stan instigated a comparison between this Lamb Karahi and the Goshat Karahi at Yadgar. Both are Superb, Yadgar is Richer, Heavier. This version is Lighter, just as Wonderful in my book.
By now Mr. Snax had made contact asking to be informed as to what we were enjoying. There is only one way to find out.
The New Karahi Palace, one of Glasgow’s Finest Sources of Desi Cooking.
The Bill
£47.60. This is much more than our Norm, but then how often do we have the Half Kilo and Starters?
The Aftermath
The Reality, it’s a Tuesday night, work tomorrow. Home.
We dropped Dr. Stan off near the 3 Judges. OK, for some.
