That John and Hector would go for Curry-Heute after the day trip to Carlisle was never in doubt. The choice of venue was up for discussion. A Special Request was sent to Masala Zing, but they failed to respond in time. Glad to hear they were busy. This left the brisk walk across the River Clyde to the New Karahi Palace (51-53 Nelson Street, Tradeston, Glasgow, G5 8DZ).
Rashid is back!
John and Hector are regulars but have never dined here together. John admits to ordering his Curry – Hector-style.
Ayaz, Mein Host, must be amused, tonight he saw the circle completed. Ayaz was ably assisted by his Brother/Cousin Rana. However, the main cause for celebration was to have the Curry cooked by the hands of Chef Rashid.
The Usual? – asked Ayaz form the counter. John’s standard order is Tandoori Lamb Chops Karahi in the Hector-style – extra Methi, extra Seasoning. Ayaz spread his hands apart – Big? How could Hector refuse the Half Kilo of Lamb Karahi on-the-bone? John managed and accepted – a Portion.
Rana brought the Modest Salad, Ayaz brought the Raita. John took charge of this, Hector has lost interest in the Modest Salad. John made particular reference to the quality of the Raita, this is a stand-out as many have noted.
Whilst we waited I risked making a nuisance of myself. Some Chaps at the adjacent table had ordered Pizza, this always amuses. That so many people come to this venue for the Pizza must say something about the quality, hopefully I shall never find out. Photo? Permission granted.
John’s Karahi had a Redness due to the Tandoori Chops. The Hector Curry was served in the Outrageously Large Karahi with the equally Outrageously Large Spoon. Two Chapattis to start, everything was hotter than everything else. We had to wait until the Food was cool enough to eat.
Sheer Joy, that is how Wonderful the Karahi is as served at the New Karahi Palace.
The Lamb on-the-bone was a mixture of Chops and Other Cuts. The discarded bones were piled on a side plate. The Masala was topped with Fresh Coriander and Ginger Strips, the Variety of Textures completes the Experience. The Masala-Mash was rich in Onion and Tomato, and of course Methi. Seasoned to Perfection, this is as good as Curry gets.
John loved his Curry but was intrigued as to how mine differed. He was finished first and so was happy to dip some Chapatti in the Mash at the base of my Karahi. More Methi – was his observation.
The Bill
£24.00. Compare the volume presented here with that served earlier in Carlisle. And as for the comparative quality, leagues apart.
The Aftermath
Rashid was summoned from his spot behind the counter. A welcome back photo had to be taken. Rashid had been in Pakistan for his son’s wedding. Hopefully Rashid does not have too many sons.
A new Afghan Restaurant
Thanks to Stephen who emailed this morning to make me aware of a new Afghan Restaurant about to open in Langside Road (Glasgow’s South-side). I shall be there soonest. Glasgow needs another source of authentic Afghan Cooking since we lost the much missed Khyber.
Did my chops request “No publicity please”?
Hector replies:
The excitement of Ayaz turning professional photographer was a distraction.
Send me a photo of your next Karahi Palace Tandoori Lamb Chops Karahi (Hector-style).
So, John has provided a photo (above), it is good to see that he records all his Curry Experiences also…
