‘Tis Das Ritual, a day at The Staggs, Musselburgh, concludes with Curry at the New Karahi Palace (51-53 Nelson Street, Tradeston, Glasgow, G5 8DZ). Indeed a Day Trip to anywhere ends up here.
Lord Clive and Lady Maggie of Crawley are in tow, Maggie’s first visit to this Venerable Establishment. Chef Rashid was in his spot, but who was the New Chap in front of house? He knew me, he also had a sense of The Hector Curry. He still brought a Menu. A Menu? I have not seen a Menu here for years, and certainly never downstairs.
Maggie was happy to order a Mixed Pakora instead of a recognised Main Course. This was a Feast, if only there was room…
Clive knew why he was here. The Hector Curry was described in detail, just to make sure. Here we go again.
Two Vegetable Parathas would accompany. We had to ensure Maggie was not eating alone, Lamb Chops to share.
The Modest Salad made its customary appearance, once again it was untouched. Where was the Raita? Two Chaps sat at the adjacent table and were sharing a Half Kilo amongst other Sundry items. Ah, The Chops.
The Portion numbered Four. These were slightly underdone for my taste, still they disappeared in record time.
Nobody expects…
Mein Host brought the Two Lamb Karahi (on-the bone, with Extra Methi, Seasoning and no Capsicum). Hang on, this was the Full Kilo, split in two, The Full Bhuna. There was no clue that we were about to receive a Half Kilo each, who would refuse this?
The Seasoning was right on the limit. The Luxurious Vegetable Oil collected at the Base of the Karahi in time honoured manner. The Spice, The Flavours … The Mash.
If I said the Lamb Chops were not outstanding, then this (Karahi) is among the best ever served here... Astonishingly Wonderful. The New Karahi Palace deserves every accolade.
The Vegetable Parathas were Huge, well stuffed, Flaky even. It became most apparent that it was eat the Paratha or finish the Curry. No prizes then.
The Bill
£39.00. It all adds up. Look at what we put away.
The Aftermath
Mein Host offered us Dessert. The offer was graciously declined. However, a Portion of Rice and of Semolina were wrapped for Takeaway. Soon.
