With an early rise in the morning, Marg and Hector headed home early for a Friday, via the Akash (45 Sinclair St, Helensburgh, G84 8TG). It was pleasing to see other couples of similar minds. We were shown to our usual table on the Dais by the new Young Waiter, Irfan was surprised when he finally spotted us.
Sharing a Mixed Combo felt appropriate. Marg let me choose her Curry, and so Aloo Gosht Karahi with a Methi Topping it was. Times, two, one Normal, one Spicy. A Single Mince Paratha would accompany. Why did I order a Mince Paratha when I had ordered Potato in the Curry? Mince and Potatoes!
The Mixed Combo is perfect for sharing. The Seekh Kebab halves easily, this, the Pair of Chicken Tikka and Lamb Tikka pieces disappeared in no time at all. We must leave room for The Mains.
Hector’s Spicy Aloo Gosht Karahi had visibly more Dry Methi on Top, Marg had yet to experience this recent Variation.
Hot Food can Cool. Cold Food cannot improve itself. This Curry was served Hot! Perfect. The Spice level was OTT, Rashid in the kitchen had done Hector proud. You ask for Spicy, you get Spicy.
The First Dip of the Paratha was into the gathering Oil, what a way to start. This combination of Paratha, Potato and Lamb was Excellent, as Wonderful a Curry as can be served at the Akash. It became apparent that the Paratha was not going to last, a single Chapatti was summoned for the sake of speed.
The Paratha was gone so quickly there was no time to inspect the interior. Careless Hector. In moments the Curry Ritual was under-way once more. Remarkably, the Lamb and the Potato were as Soft as each other. Who was enjoying the Experience more, Hector or Marg? The Methi Topping is the icing on the cake.
In Helensburgh, it has to be the Akash.
Marg must have a White Coffee at the Akash. Again this is served is served exactly how she likes it, Milky and Hot!
Who ate the After Eights? Nobody!
The Bill
£29.00. Irfan said he was not charging us the Flat Fee of £15.00, we hadn’t eaten enough.
The Aftermath
The customary chat with Rashid followed the meal. Our travels continue, Rashid marvels at the places we get to. There will be a another Curry-Heute review soon from one of Hector’s favourite English Curry Houses. Just the 05.00 rise to cope with now.
We haven’t see Ashgar for a while.
