The 2015 Tour of Poland continues, if it’s Tuesday it must be Poznan. The Tavaa (Ratajczaka 30, Poznan, Polska) was spotted yesterday by Steve and Louise when they came to rendezvous two doors away at Ministerstwo Browaru, why did they assume I had picked a Curry House? Rowing Jack was available.
The Lone Diner declared the need to start the day with Fish Curry, this way the required Traditional Polish Fayre could be faced this evening.
Fish Tikka Masala (34Zl) – Pieces of boneless fish marinated in aromatic spices, grilled in tandoor and served in spicy tomato gravy with cashew nuts – was listed at the end of the section for Lamb Curry Dishes, all the likely Hector Curry choices together. Had Lamb been on my mind today the Handi would have won, with a major alteration. The – Offending Vegetable – was not included in the description for the Fish Tikka Masala. Is this the first time Hector has ordered Tikka Masala?
The Starters included Lamb Chops, had it been later in the day…. Dal Makhani and Jeera Aloo convinced this commentator that this was an Authentic Source of Indian Food unlike the last two premises visited in Bydgoszcz. The Vegetarian Section impressed with the wide array of Dishes, Mains and Sides, on offer.
The Waitress took the order then brought the customary Cumin-laden Poppadom and a single Mint Raita Dip. This was sufficient this early in the day when the Hector appetite is dormant.
A sensible quantity of Inclusive Basamati was presented with the Fish Tikka Masala, first impressions were of – too Soupy – however the Rice took care of the excess. One was left with the feeling that this could be a Worthy Curry. The Masala had some Pedigree, Creamy and complemented the Strong Flavour from the Fish. The Kick was not demanding, the majority would have no problem with the Spice Level. This was a Good, Mainstream, Fish Curry, then things took a downturn. Not all of the Solids were Fish. Piece by piece the Dreaded Capsicum started to be exposed. I piled six pieces on the side of the plate, oops, the seventh was digested, I survived.
The Capsicum Ballast did detract from the Overall Pleasure, it was not listed as an Ingredient when it clearly was in other dishes. Why was this? A Chap who had to be – Mein Host – entered the premises half way though my Curry, he acknowledge his only customer. When I had finished he returned and spotted the Pile of Peppers. I waved my hand over them – These do not belong in Curry. No offence was taken, he said they could have been withheld had I asked, but I pointed out I had no way of knowing of their inclusion. He was proud to inform me that he had an Indian Chef.
This was a well established Indian Restaurant, the Menu is proof of the efficacy of The Fayre. Next time in Poznan I would not hesitate in returning to Tavaa.
