On the way home this evening, Marg declared her intention to stop off at the New Anand (76 Nithsdale Rd, Glasgow G41 2AN) for a Takeaway Pakora. Hector jumped on the Bandwagon, an Aloo Gobi too please. No lift home as it happened.
The New Anand has never been reviewed before in Curry-Heute but has rated a mention. In the late 1990s, Hector was a Regular Visitor, back in the days of the Athena Greek Taverna. The Buffet was the attraction, yes it is likely that this is where the realisation dawned at how Bland, Buffet Curry can be. Overdosing on Starters, especially Chicken Chat, yes back in the day.
The Staff of course knew us Chaps who frequented – Ladze – being our Moniker. Tony, one of the Waiters opened up his own premises opposite the Alison Arms on Pollokshaws Road, but now finds himself at Curry Haven in Strathaven. Hector, Marg, Dr. Stan and Eleanor enjoyed Hospitality at Curry Haven last September.
The final three Pieces of Pakora proved to be too much for Marg, past its best by the time I reheated for the second time. The Spiced Onion was set aside. The Aloo Gobi was my focus. Removal of the lid revealed a far too Red Dish. Why do Chefs do this? It is not a Natural Colour, most off-putting. A quick – Ding – and here we go.
The Masala was Thin but thankfully far from Shorva. The Cauliflower was Firm, perfectly cooked, there has been some Dodgy Cauliflower consumed in recent days. The Potato was Sound. Oh no, six Pieces of Capsicum had been added. Who asked for this? Ballast!
There is Aloo Gobi served Desi-style in Favourite Venues. This was too Sweet, and an Unhealthy looking Red.
Hector has to visit the New Anand for a Proper Visit.
The Aftermath
The Spiced Onion may well find its way into a Stir Fry in the days to come.
