The monthly visit to The Staggs traditionally ends with a visit to the New Karahi Palace (51-53 Nelson Street, Tradeston, Glasgow, G5 8DZ). That we used the Cross-Country route to avoid queues at Glasgow Queen St (something to do with a sporting event near Haymarket) meant we returned to Glasgow Central. So no Subway, Mags would join Hector though I suspected she was really after a Takeaway.
Ayaz, Mein Host, was walking towards us as we entered with a Karahi Gosht in each hand. Is that for us? The Curry was taken upstairs to the restaurant. Rashid, The Chef, is still on vacation, he returns on Wednesday. The Stand-in Chef has produced Karahi worthy of celebration in the intervening weeks.
My Usual, and an Aloo Gosht. The order was spoken to Ayaz from our table in the downstairs Café area. Ayaz consulted the Chef and then announced that they had virtually sold out. He could do Two Portions of Aloo Gosht Karahi. More Potatoes for Hector, and a First Experience at this venue of the Curry which Mags raves about. Yesterday she considered the Yadgar equivalent as having – the edge. Back on home territory, what would be her verdict tonight?
The Modest Salad was photographed as part of the Curry-Heute Ritual, one wonders why they bother.
It’s February, there is still a chill in the air. The steam rising from the Karahi (yes, I know it’s water vapour!) mucked up the first attempt at photographic record. Wafts of vapour appear in below-right too.
This Curry was Piping Hot, we had to let it cool before the enjoyment could begin. If this was a case of what could be rustled up, then Gosh! Lamb Chops and Boneless Lamb featured along with a Sufficiency of Potatoes. The Customary Karahi Palace Mash-Masala at the base of the Karahi was up to its usual (high) standard. Tailored to the Hector-tastebuds with Methi and Seasoning, oh yes.
Mags had planned a Takeaway and so saved more than half. She assured me it would be even better tomorrow.
Mags was caught in two minds, or between Two Curry Houses.
This is possibly the best Aloo Gosht in town, it’s lighter. I’m not insulting Yadgar.
Two interpretations of the same Dish, both outstanding. Is there a need to compare. Enjoy them both!
The Bill
£17.40. Divide this in two. Yes, this is how Hector can afford to eat out.
The Aftermath
There was a lot of chatter on a certain media website. It looks as though Mr. Snax may finally be tempted to join Hector at the New Karahi Palace. He will not be disappointed.
Dinner tomorrow, ah Lamb for roasting. Can one eat too much Lamb?
