Glasgow – New Karahi Palace – Who ate all the Lamb?

Glasgow Karahi Palace Curry-Heute (2)A Saturday in Glasgow? What a novel concept. After the excesses of Thursday at Yadgar, Curry-Heute was put to the back of my mind, but it is a Saturday, oh, what the hell: Every day is a good day to eat Curry. Maybe I’ll have something different?

The New Karahi Palace (51 – 53 Nelson Street, Glasgow, G5 8DZ) has quite an extensive Website (http://karahi-palace.com/index.php) featuring way more Dishes than than I have ever seen presented at this most humble of venues. Lamb Desi Korma (£6.50) – Yougart (sic) spiced lamb on the bone curry desi style spicy with Mushroom Rice (£2.50), still Lamb, but completely different. The Village made this a Hector stalwart back in the day, far removed from the Karahi Obession.

Saturday 15.00 – Curry-Heute

Steve was punctual, Lamb Karahi on-the-bone (£7.95) with a Chapatti (£1.80) is the Standard order. Steve was up for this. Qaiser came to take the order. No Lamb – was his response to my request for Desi Korma. Lamb Chops Karahi or Achari was offered. Lamb Chops Karahi it would be. Kismet.

Glasgow Karahi Palace Curry-Heute (3)Two of the four tables were occupied when I entered, minutes later all four tables were occupied. Burgers and Chips? You must be joking, however, each to their own. Rashid and his assistant Chef were busy, who ate all the Lamb? Those not eating Burgers had chosen from the Daily Specials and so were served first. It was a full half hour before the Karahi and Chapattis were brought by the Lady who helps out.

Lamb Chops – Piled High

Glasgow Karahi Palace Curry-Heute (7)Glasgow Karahi Palace Curry-Heute (5)I know people come to this Blog not to read the meanderings of the author, but just to salivate at the photos. Feast the eyes, this is as good as it gets. There are only four Lamb Chops, but each Chop is way larger than the norm. The Chapattis were Hot, the Karahi was Hotter still, and as for the Oil collecting beside the Masala Mash, too hot to handle.

Glasgow Karahi Palace Curry-Heute (6)We had an audience, newcomers were watching Steve and Hector eat Chops – the proper way. One Chapatti as ever was enough, dipped in the Oil to start, then scooping up the Masala. Just how much Methi was there in this Creation? The Masala oozed Methi, Glorious! The Seasoning was at the Limit, ah Steve tends not to like his Curry this well Seasoned. I had to ask, it was within Acceptable Parameters. The Chops had been marinaded, no doubt they had been destined for the Tandoor, however, they had escaped this treatment. Still, Tandoori Chops in this Mash would not be the end of the World. This was Wonderful, to think I nearly had Desi Korma, next time.

Did you enjoy that? – asked a Chap at the opposite table. Always!

The Bill

£18.60. This included one soft Drink. Chapattis may be priced on the menu at £1.80, I doubt I have ever paid this much.

The Aftermath

Out into the sunshine, we have two more days of this.

Ramadan starts next week.  The Legendary Village Buffet is calling.
