Madhras Dosa – 76B, Old Dumbarton Rd, Glasgow, G3 8RE
Almost eight years passed between Hector’s first visit to Banana Leaf and the second, though there was the solitary visit to the short-lived Banana Leaf Southside in the interim. The Cuisine served at Banana Leaf, now Madhras Dosa, is South Indian, significantly different from the Punjabi Fayre which is predominant in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. The Chef remains the same. Hector makes no secret of a preference for Dry Curry, Lamb Chukka aside, this is not what is typically served at Madhras Dosa.
The South Indian Chettinad Flavour is one which Hector has come to particularly enjoy, however, served with Minimal Masala as is best exemplified at Dessi Tadka and formerly at Indian Mango (München). Hector has come to accept that Soupy Curry is served at Madhras Dosa. The Dry – Chukka – once discovered, disappeared from the menu.
Closed on Tuesdays, Banana Leaf always claimed to be open six days a week from noon. This I challenged oft given the number of disappointments in the early afternoon. 17.00 was the reality. In 2025, the noon until 15.00 opening is once again claimed, a split shift resuming at 17.00.
In early 2023, a new Banana Leaf was opened in the city centre. Whatever the cause of the split, the two operations are decidedly separate.

The premises are modest, the spartan decor enhanced by an informative muriel (sic). The overflow next door has gone, all part of the renaming of the premises, I have been told.
