Karachi Restaurant – Bradford

Karachi Restaurant  –  15 Neal St, Bradford BD5 0BX

Established in 1950, Karachi Restaurant is the oldest Curry House in Bradford.  It was fitting therefore that the first Bradford Curry post on Curry-Heute was at this venue.

Over the years, visits have been sporadic, Hector has therefore yet to establish any rapport with the staff.  Karachi is reportedly open daily at 11.00, but having been found to not open punctually, this has stifled the number of visits over the years. The days of being open until the small hours have gone, as is the case across the city.

A Restaurant by name, Curry Cafe by decor, this is an informal venue. The Bradford tradition of three inclusive Chapattis, Naan or Rice maintains here.

Bring cash – Proper Curry, proper money.

2021 prices, a bit of nostalgia:

Meat Ball Spinach – Kofta Palak, is reckoned by some, Hector included, to be their signature Dish.  The arrival of one Rick Stein put Karachi on the map in 2001 when Chef shared his recipe for a Meat Spinach Karahi with the TV celebrity Chef.

  1. Thanks as ever for your site, Hector.

I popped in the Karachi last Thursday and found the spinach meatballs on top form. Two dozen folk in at 6pm, virtually full.

By the by, if you find yourself in Sheffield I can recommend Curry Spoon in Hillsborough, only started this month, excellent early reviews.

    Hector replies:

Always keen to hear of new places. I hope you have tried Wicker Kebabish and Apna Style in Sheffield, plus the equally impressive Syhiba in Wakefield. Also, I have yet to visit the Syhiba mother shop in Sowerby Bridge.

I will have to give that a try next time. Getting chicken thigh meat is such a rarity its all I go for, and beats the lamb hands down for taste and tenderness. Love the blog, Truly inspirational ?? Cheers, Tom

    Hector replies:

    Thanks

  3. Tom Lockwood says:

Thoroughly recommend a chicken dish, the humble Bhuna with meltingly tender thigh meat. Heavenly!

    Hector replies:

As you may have noticed, Lamb and Fish are my preferences, though the odd Chicken Kofta does make its way in here. At Karachi, Kofta Palak has become my go to choice.
Watch this space for more Bradford Curry in the not to distant future.
