2 Grosvenor St, Haymarket, Edinburgh EH12 5EG
2019, the year Hector set out to expand the coverage of Edinburgh Curry Houses. Rustom Restaurant appeared on the scene in September 2018, ensuring that Curry-Heute remains contemporary. What makes Rustom all the more appealing is that it is a Pakistani Restaurant whereas the majority of Edinburgh Curry Houses are Bangladeshi in origin. Hector’s preference for Punjabi Cuisine is well recorded in these pages. It’s a Glasgow thing.
Rustom Restaurant is open all afternoon which makes it particularly attractive. A competitively priced Business Lunch is available Monday to Friday, 12.30 until 16.30, though Sunni, Mein Host admits that one cannot expect the Lamb Karahi to be as good as going a la carte. On a Wednesday afternoon in June 2021 at 15.00, the Lunch Menu was not offered.
The Lamb Karahi, sold by the kilo, is what attracted Hector to Rustom Restaurant. To say that the Lamb Karahi is outstanding is no exaggeration. Hector has visited hundreds of Curry Houses around the planet, only a handful serve Fayre of this efficacy, quality. However, the pricing of the half kilo would hurt any wallet, dining alone could be very expensive.
Beware also, the prices of Starters and Sundries err towards the high end of the spectrum. However, given their highly accessible locus at Haymarket, rent has to be paid.
Rustom Restaurant has a full drinks licence.
