Glasgow – Lahore Kebab House – Pollokshields – A Long Overdue Visit

Sources have suggested that that the Lahore Kebab House (196 Albert Dr, Glasgow, G41 2NH ) is the best of Pollokshields Venues. The Halal Kebab House is respected, Café Serena did not grab The Hector as much as he would have hoped, must go back. Café Reeshah serves the best Keema Mutter served to Hector yet. They eschew publicity. Go on, order Keema Mutter, tell them Hector sent you. There is a sense that they could be a business that would compete with the Best of Govanhill: Yadgar, Sheerin Palace, Lasani Grill, Desi – Curry Palace.

The existence of Lahore Kebab House no doubt pre-dates many of the above. I have stuck my head in since the start of Curry-Heute. Time for a visit.

Arriving at 15.40 on a Monday afternoon, I may not have mentioned – I’m still on Holiday – it was no surprise that Hector was The Lone Diner. Two more days.

I’m here on a Curry-Safari!

Given the look of a Stranger walking in and studying everything under The Counter with a Determination of The Hector, Determination, I felt the need to announce myself in a modest way.

What have ye got? – was foremost in the mind, discretion.

What is your Tastiest Tender Lamb Dish?

Lamb on-the-bone  – was the First offer from Mein Host who has – His Spot – immediately on the right as one enters. No further description was required, though Lamb Karahi was what I was hoping for.

With Two Chapattis please.

I was asked if I was sitting in or having a Takeaway. Hector had hung his Jacket on a chair and placed the Metro over the Table.

No Sparkling Water was available, all 500ml Bottles are £1.30. Fizz was procured. A Plastic Cup was provided. Surely not Paper Plates?

The Associate of Mein Host may have been The Chap who relayed the order, somehow Chef was cued in. The wait was not long. The Metro reported there is still no cure for baldness, despite the enticing headline.  Quel Surpris!

Lahore Kebab House seats Twelve at Three Tables.  The Chairs looked as if they had been well used over the years.

Lahore Kebab House Curry-Heute (5)The Associate brought an Oblong Crockery Plate and a Basket. The latter had two Chapattis which I can only describe as being from the Oatmeal Flour version. Large, Chunky, Body, Hot, Superb.

Twelve Pieces of Lamb stared at me with an Oily Masala spread across the Plate. This was different. This is why I was here.

The Lamb Curry was on display and so this was a simple reheat. The Oil content was not disguised, those who cannot cope, stay away. The Masala, was not excessive, though this was not Dry Curry. as is The Hector Preference.

Lahore Kebab House Curry-Heute (4)The Chapattis performed well. The First Scoop of Masala was impressive. Seasoning, a Sense of Kick. This Curry would not be demanding, but it became very pleasing. This is not Hector being wishy-washy, simply enjoying The Pleasure of what is called – Curry. Of course the Lamb was Tender. Twelve Pieces, only Three with Bones. For the record, Two were – Sucky Bones. Marrow – Mmmm. This was a Satisfying Portion. I missed an Interesting Vegetable, but was more than happy to accept what had been given. The Plate was wiped clean. I would certainly eat this again. With some of the Egg Curry as a Side.

Note: The normal camera is in hospital. The Trusty Samsung only recorded Half of the Curry.

The Bill

£9.30. £1.30 for the 500ml bottle of Fizz.

The Aftermath

Lahore Kebab House Curry-Heute (6)Mein Host accepted the Calling Card.

Where are you from? … oh a Safari….

I asked about the available Food.

I would like to try your Karahi, do you need notice to prepare it?

You had it.

Do you do Dry Curry?

No.

Maybe Rice will have to be considered in future.

Mein Host led me to the Display Counter. He identified the top left as Vegetable Curry, this too looked worthy of a sample. The Egg I have mentioned. The Keema Mutter had huge pieces of Potato too.

Lahore Kebab House Curry-Heute.comI shall come back and try the Keema, it looks Good.

Mince-Peas is my favourite – I was informed.

Mein Host was happy to let me take photos, and as is seen, was happy to be included.

I should have been here years ago. Another Southside Curry Venue selling Desi Curry.

As the Regular Readers know: I prefer these Venues by far to the Posh Places with Tablecloths.
