Poznan – Restauracja Indyjska Shivaz – Hector and The Men from Yorkshire

This Week in Polska was originally a few days with the Rickmeister in Poznan, then a certain Steven Wilson decided to play here the day before our planned rendezvous. This is Tuesday, I arrived in Polska on Friday, we leave on Friday, who planned this Trip? Oh, you’re going to the Football tonight? I’m not. And so Hector met Ricky, The Man from Bradford, and Stewart for a Curry Lunch and  later some Biers, the rest of the day was mine.

Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (4)Restauracja Indyjska Shivaz (Mielzynskiego 16, 61-829 Poznan) is located in the centre of Poznan but not at this given address. Try around the back on 27 Grudnia. The Menu states this, other Sources do not.  It helps to know this.

Ricky was keen to come here because they do a Lunch Menu for 34 Zl.

The Chaps were at the point of ordering their Soup when I joined them around 14.30. Chicken Madras and Buttered Naan would be the Main Course for both. Who says The Rickmeister will eat anything as long as it is Cheap?

Mutton Rogan Josh (34 Zl) – Mutton pieces stewed in spicy yoghurt and onion sauce – and Lemon Rice (12 Zl) – Lemon flavour basmati rice fried with lentils and mild spices – would accompany. Some had Bier even though it was a Piwa that would not be considered at any other time, Sparkling Water is reliable.

The Staff were different from Sunday, so the connections I had made were fruitless. We were the only customers, for me this is the perfect time of day to eat. Poppadoms and Dips arrived, these I did not touch despite the Poppadoms having embedded Cumin Seeds.  They were part of The Lunch Menu.

I had to watch The Chaps sup their Daal Shorva. I had assumed this was part of The Lunch, however I now discovered it was an extra 10 Zl, Ricky was pushing the boat out. Both were pleased with the Soup. Ricky even went as far saying – Impressed.

Lemon Rice

Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (15)This was a much more sensible Portion than I had been given on Sunday. With Cashew Nuts and Curry Leaves there was quite a bit to it, I would certainly order this again.

Mutton Rogan Josh

Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (14)Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (22)Seven Large Pieces of Mutton, which varied from Tender to a Good Firm, had to be cut, making fourteen. This was enough Meat. There was an Aroma of Dark Red Chillies yet I found none. The distinctive South Indian Aroma was there.  As I ate, the term – Chettinad – came to mind. The Dish was – Spicy  – as asked for. The Masala had a Decent Thickness, the Cream Content was not overdone. With the Ginger Strips and the Vegetables this was a Very Satisfying Curry Experience. Dare I say, this could be the Curry House in Poznan I should recommend one visits first?

Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (20)Chicken Madras

Poznan Shivaz Curry-Heute (13)Ricky would never have ordered this in Bradford, the Curry was far too Soup-like. Yet when he and Stewart tucked in, I heard no complaints. The Naan looked a Decent Size but may not have risen as one would hope.

Slightly smaller than a Bradford Portion – said The Rickmeister – Not bad for a fiver. Excellent Curry, don’t quote me on that.

It’s OK, Rick, I won’t.

The Bill

123.00 Zl. (£22.30) Biers featured in this.

The Aftermath

Two Piwa were had before The Chaps headed off to t’Fitba’. Hector was left to his own devices at Poznan‘s Finest Bier House – Piwna Stopa, little did I know how the rest of the evening would pan out…
