München – Lahori Hajweri – The Last Curry of 2017

The Company are in München for Silvester. At this time of year Indian Mango is closed so no Fisch/Lamm Chettinad for Hector. Last month I was in München on a Monday when Indian Mango is always closed, so took the Opperchancity to return to Lahori Hajweri (3a Schillerstrasse, München). Two Fish Dishes looked appealing, today it would be Fisch Keema Karahi (€15.50) with inclusive Basmati. I couldn’t help notice that the prices were nearly double what they had been last visit, ouch. The prices also did not correspond with those at the doorway, I would have to investigate.

We were able to check-in to our rooms just after our 13.00 arrival, thirty minutes later Marg was dragged for Curry. I promised to accompany her to Cafe Piemonte, her favourite Coffee House in München, afterwards. Marg took the nibble option, Fisch Pakora (€5.50) and Vegetable Samosa (€3.50). The Young Chap who served us was presumably the son of the owner. He noted the Order efficiently and accepted the instruction – Kein Paprika. A 750ml Bottle of Sparkling Water (€4.90) completed the Order.

For our entertainment this afternoon we were treated to the Musik I associate with being called to prayer. Dirge-like, it did go on a bit. It was a change from the too lively Bollywood stuff that can be annoying. Lahori Hajweri make it clear they are a Pakistani-Indian Restaurant.

Both of Marg’s Starters arrived with Modest Salads. The Pakora was Small, six pieces only. The Green Dip took Marg by surprise. Expecting – Mint – she went for it – Too Spicy! What was presumably – Mango – was much more to Marg’s taste, Sweet.

Nothing Special – was Marg’s verdict on the Fisch Pakora.

The Samosas were presented as a Pair. They were a decent size and appeared to be well stuffed.

Plenty Veg, Potatoes, with a good crusty pastry – Marg was pleased with these.

I like what I had and I don’t feel stuffed.

Fisch Keema Karahi

Who has ever heard of Keema Fish? This Curry resembled the Brains Curry I have been served at the Sheesh Mahal (Bradford) but was far more Tasty. The Onion and Tomato Garnish added a bit of Diversity to the Mass of Flaked Fish. The Fish was Moist yet this was as Dry a Curry as one could receive. There was no discrete Masala, just a Tasty Mash. The Spice Level was Moderate, it could have done with more Seasoning. It is always a surprise when a Fish Curry lacks Seasoning.

As is the European custom, there was more Rice than a man could eat. Perhaps with more Curry I might have been able to eat more Rice.

The Curry was enjoyable without setting the heather on fire. At least I had found a suitably Dry Curry and avoided the Soupy nonsense that too many venues over here dish out.

The Bill

€29.40 (£26.25) I showed Mein Host the Blog entry for my last visit, highlighting the lower prices. He explained that that had been the Lunchtime Menu (11.00 – 15.00), and being a Holiday this was not available today.  So it goes.

The Aftermath

There had to be a photo with Mein Host.

And so to Cafe Piemonte for Kaffee und Kuchen, closed, oops.

En route to the Hofbräu Keller, we passed the Kashmir Inn, just across the River Isar from Indian Mango. That’s one for another New Year Trip or a Monday.
