The Seventieth Yadgar Review
We thoroughly enjoyed the Grand Yadgar Takeaway at the start of the year, when Shkoor delivered a mass of Curry to Chez Kenny. Hector &Co. have not set foot in Yadgar (148 Calder St., Govanhill, Glasgow, G42 7QP) this year. It is a Friday night, how else can one start The Weekend?
Kenny was taken to Aberdeen on other duties, leaving Dr. Stan to share a Kilo of Goshat Karahi on-the-bone. Mags would keep us company, The Curry Club was quorate.
Hector had a brainwave, order Mags her favourite, Aloo Gosht, she has never experienced this Yadgar-style. Would it compete with her Favourite Glasgow Curry served at The New Karahi Palace? The order was texted in to Shkoor, Mein Host, a couple of days ago. Naveed was manning the shop when we assembled around 17.00. He had to cope with the constant Takeaway Business as well as serve us. Fortunately when Shkoor arrived he was able to take his break. Although we were the only diners, the doorway was wedged throughout our stay.
Complimentary Poppadoms and Dips were brought to the table, then the plate of Spiced Onions. Where was Obadiah? This was followed by a Salad with Everything. The Pickled Green Chillies were wild. When we ask – To be Fed – this Healthy Array is usually complemented by Spiced Scottish Haddock. Not tonight, time was an issue, the last cask of Hawkshead’s NZPA was reportedly being served in the city. I have had a premonition, I shall mention this Superb Ale again soon.
The Chef, Mr Arshad, waved from the kitchen door. Your Karahi is ready. Bring it on.
As the Kilo of Goshat Karahi, the Chapattis and Mags’ Aloo Gosht were assembled on the table, so the previous Nibbles were sent to the far end.
You have dismissed the healthy now that the Meat is here – observed Shkoor. So true.
Off the Mmmm-ometer Scale
From the first mouthful Hector was taken to – that Special Curry Place. One has been trying to describe the Pleasure that is Yadgar Curry for years. This is the Seventieth Revue.
The Richness of the Masala baffles, still I’m on my Carrot hunch and will have to try this at home. When did I last cook Curry?
There was an outburst of Mmmm- fantastic on my right. Dr. Stan was loving it. With the subtlest of Sweet and just a hint of a Creamy Texture, the Goshat Karahi is Dining Heaven. The Lamb on-the-bone separates so easily, the Joy of Glasgow Curry, Yadgar reigns supreme. I remarked that Dr. Stan and Hector have no problem putting away a Kilo, do not try this with the Boneless version, at least three mouths would be required. Fantastic – said Dr. Stan. What’s got into him? Yadgar Curry, Dr. Stan could not contain himself. Wonderful!
This is fantastic, it has surpassed itself – he said to Shkoor who had to ask if there was anything more we needed. Two more Chapattis.
Meanwhile Across The Table
This has the edge over the Karahi Palace – was Mags comment moments after she started her Aloo Gosht. That this was repeated confirms she was also experiencing the wonder that is Yadgar Curry. The Portion looked Huge, approaching the Half Kilo possibly. Normally Mags will resort to the Doggy Bag, not tonight, she ate the lot.
Three very happy customers, and then the news reached us via a popular media website. Leonard Nimoy, aka Mr. Spock, has joined – The Immortals. If only the humour, morals and philosophy of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek could be appreciated and applied by those confused people on our planet who currently take the lives of their fellow man, and for what…

The Aftermath
The NZPA was still on, and there was further discussion about Leonard Nimoy. He has been part of Star Trek, our lives, for fifty years. Mr Spock lives.
Live long and prosper.
RIP Mr. Spock
