Just in case there is still someone out there who is not aware, this is the week of Hector’s Retiral. Thirty-Four Years Service at Lomond School, Helensburgh, one of Scotland’s top Independent Schools. This may explain the propensity for Curry-Heute Reports from far and wide, the holidays have been put to good use. With an Anticipated Audience in excess of the seating capacity of Helensburgh’s Akash (45 Sinclair St, Helensburgh, G84 8TG), it was agreed there would be Curry prepared by Rashid et al, but served at the Sailing Club. Carolyn, a member, plus Colin and Anthony were also honoured this evening. The Four Retirees. A few hours of sunshine at Sports Day had given us a misleading colourful physiognomy. Anthony has featured in these pages from time to time.
It was agreed that the Mixed Combo would provide the basis for Starters: Chicken Seekh Kebab, Chicken Tikka and Lamb Tikka. Vegetable Pakora and Chicken Pakora complemented these, however, Hector stuck to the Mixed Combo, there had to be space left for The Mains.
When one invites an array of the populous, all needs have to be catered for. A Vegetable Curry, Chicken Korma and Chicken Rogan Josh would satisfy The Needs of The Many. A Vegetable Curry on The Side has featured in this Blog for years, so no disparaging remarks there. For those who enjoy Chicken, well they do, and they did tonight.
The Needs of The Few
The Hector Special #1 – Lamb Methi and the Hector Special #3 were the expected Mains for – The Chaps. Alas the Lamb Achari on-the-bone topped with Dry Methi did not make an appearance. Instead a pot of Lamb on-the-bone would be The Hector Curry. Superb as expected. Being able to help oneself meant Minimal Masala, the Seasoning was first class, I went back for more. One had to sample the Almost-Intimidating Lamb Methi. As Tender as…., the Lamb was Magnificent, again a Superb Akash Curry. The Chaps loved this. Regular Readers will recognise some of The Company.
Note, when Marg had the choice, she went for the Lamb Methi.
The Aftermath
Favourable comments about the Food served this evening are too many to recall. Strangely, quite a few people admitted they had not been to the Akash in years. Newer venues have more up to date decor, better ambience? They are also at street level.
Hector insists – If one is out for Curry in Helensburgh, it has to be the Akash.
