International (40-42 Morley Street, Bradford, BD7 1BA) has been visited by Hector since 1996. Marg’s first Bradford Curry was also at this venue back in 1998. Marg made a poor choice: the Coconut in her Chicken Korma was excessive, and intolerably sweet as a consequence. Marg does not order such feral dishes these days.
In the middle of 2011 Hector had a truly sublime moment. The Curry did not just hit the spot; it took me to another place. The Lamb Karahi Methi, Lamb Karahi Karela, and the Lamb Desi are all magnificent choices. In 2017 the Shahi Kofta was first encountered, something completely different.
Despite my visits to Yorkshire being limited, the core staff Mr Bashir, Khalid and Ali always recognised me. I always made a point of telling them that I had come all the way from Glasgow to eat their Bradford Curry.
… and so it was until early 2018 when the Hygiene Inspectors closed the place down … this was not the end…
… the writing was on the wall..
In 2016 there was a report of Curry coming too quickly and being far too Salty. Hector experienced this Excessive Salt in 2017, this is something I suggested they should keep an eye on.
In Visit #26 in February 2018, I had to ask – Where is Ali?
In the summer of 2018 the Hygiene Inspectors found International to be woefully below standard and shut them down, presumably pending improvements. One of Bradford’s oldest and best Curry Houses gone.
August 2019
Refurbished and open for business. International is back! It took until October 2019 for Visit #27. All is well in terms of quality of Curry, however, complimentary Poppadoms and Dips have gone. The inclusive Rice/Chapattis/Roti/Naan maintains, however, one can end up paying for something one doesn’t receive if one orders say a Garlic Naan and not the basic.
