Bombaywalla – Indian Street Kitchen  –  78 Union Street, Glasgow G1 3QS

Bombaywalla is open daily from 11.00, noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Most importantly for Curry-Heute, Bombaywalla does not close mid-afternoon.

When Babu gave up the basement premises, just off Blythswood Square, known a Babu – Bombay Street Kitchen to become peripatetic, in stepped Sijin, and having transformed the layout, rebranded as Bombaywalla – Indian Street Kitchen.

It was due to a kitchen fire that Bombaywalla moved from Regent Street to Union Street in November 2025.  Four months later, a devastating fire across the street led to the closure of Union Street.

First visited in April 2026, the new, also basement premises, were found to be significantly more spacious. Footfall, an issue for the foreseeable.

In addition to superb South Indian, Curry, Bombaywalla also serves an array of – small plates – and snacks – Streetfood.  Curry has been the focus of Hector’s attention.  Curry at Bombaywalla is not for the faint of heart, the powerful South Indian – Smokiness –  allied to a level of Seasoning that even Hector considers to be – brave – creates a distinctive taste experience. Whilst Spice Levels may not be OTT, the Curry at Bombaywalla takes no prisoners.

Lamb Sukka, a dry Chettinad in effect, proves that this type of Curry does not have to be served – soupy.

For those seeking more Masala, Lamb Kolhapuri and Seabass Malabar provide worthy alternatives.

A special treat at Bombaywalla is the Malabar Parotta, the king of soft, flaky Parathas, one of only three venues in Glasgow known to Hector which serve this beautiful Bread.

Mixed Veggies Biryani was thoroughly enjoyed on Visit #1. Masala Rice is also distinctive – like Pilau but more intense flavours – is how Sijin described this accompaniment.
