Out of the hundred-plus venues reviewed in Deutschland, Desi Dhaba becomes only the ninth to be added to Hector’s Recommended Curry Houses. Of these nine, to date, Desi Dhaba deserves a spot in the top four.
In the UK, we have – BIR – British Indian Restaurants – serving Mainstream Curry which bears little resemblance to the few Curry Cafes serving – Desi – fayre.
Mainland Europe has – EIR – where restaurateurs serve up minimally spiced, often Soupy Curry, because they believe that’s all the local population can handle.
Desi Dhaba in Aachen, on the western extremity of Deutschland, minutes from the border with België, was therefore regarded as quite a discovery.
First visited in hope, rather than expectation in March 2026, the menu confirmed that Desi Dhaba was a venue fit to be called thus. On sampling the Curry then and since, definite – wow! – moments.

That Abdul, Ejan, and colleagues, recognised Curry-Heute as something to be taken seriously, also went down well.
