Banana Leaf – Glasgow – Scotland

Banana Leaf  –  192 St. Vincent Street, Glasgow G2 5SG

West End Banana Leaf – South Indian – is how this restaurant is also identified.  These premises opened in early 2023, a continuation of Banana Leaf  (Old Dumbarton Road) established in 2008. There, Chef Satheesh continues the operation under the moniker – Madhras Dosa.  The two businesses are not connected.

Banana Leaf is managed by Chef Suren who dates back to 2008.  His presence assures the continuity of Banana Leaf and the consistency of the fayre. Suren is ably assisted by Vasanth.

The new basement premises are grand in comparison to the – Curry Cafe – which remains in Old Dumbarton Road.

Open daily from noon until 21.30 (closed Tuesday), this city centre location suits  Hector’s early afternoon optimum eating time. The distinctive South Indian Curry on offer is a departure from the ubiquitous Punjabi  fayre in Glasgow.  There are times it just has to be a – Chettinad!

South Indian Curry is – soupy – however, Banana Leaf have retained the much loved, dry – Lamb Chukka – which is a departure from the fayre which otherwise prevails.

Prices and portions appear decent for a city centre locus. Bigger than – Tapas – the mains include Rice/Chapatti/Paratha.

A – BYOB – system is in operation, with free corkage!
